Pardon me, I'm holding off on commenting on tonight's great Isles 3-2 win over the Canadiens, but something was turned to my attention that I want to just mention...
I understand that the Islanders are not the best team in the league, and they're not the most popular. But the level of ignorance that is given to this team is sometimes laughable
Gord Miller, broadcaster for TSN, recently did a short video piece on TSN concerning the performance of the 2008 draft class.
After talking about Steven Stamkos and going ga-ga over Drew Doughty, Miller then turns his (short) attention to Josh Bailey.
Now if you can't view the video, here's what Gord had to say...
"At the other end of the scale, Josh Bailey of the Islanders. Three goals in 53 games. Barely playing, and a frequent healthy scratch."Really, Gord?
Granted, yes, Josh has three goals, and it has taken a while for him to get fully adjusted to NHL play, but was his goal scoring ability what the Islanders really drafted him for?
Nope.
Josh Bailey is a playmaker. Take a look at last year's junior numbers. 29 goals, 67 assists. I guess those three goals Josh has now means he sucks.
Gord, I guess you also forgot about those 17 assists Josh has.
Also, he barely plays?? And is a frequent healthy scratch???
Really??
I wonder how many Islanders games Gord Miller has watched this year.
Infact, the Isles just played the Montreal Canadiens tonight, you know, one of the teams TSN loves to give most of their coverage to so much. Josh Bailey had 16:48 of ice time, with 4 shots on net.
Two nights ago, against the Toronto Maple Leafs, ANOTHER team that TSN dedicates a lot of coverage to, Bailey played 20:40 with an assist.
Yeah, he's barely playing. Poor guy...
Oh and this healthy scratch nonsense? The only games Josh has missed were because of injury. Plain and simple.
Every time I read something from the press in Canada for the past week, it's the "lowly Islanders". Yes, they're in last place, we get it. But these so-called "lowly Islanders" are 6-2-2 in their last 10 games.
If that's their definition of "lowly", I'd hate to hear what "good" is.
C'mon Gord...get your facts straight. You're in Canada. Canada knows hockey.
You obviously don't care, and your ignorance shows.

That. Is. Incredible. Wow, busted!
Go get em Tom.
GIVE ME HIS EMAIL ADDRESS!!! I think he obviously has him confused with someone else.... although I can't even imagine WHO!
Thanks guys...it's just inexcusable nowadays.
Dee, I wish I knew his email address, because you could be sure this would be sent right into his mailbox.
The Islanders may be 6-2-2 over their last 10, but they are still behind Tampa (despite having more wins). Now that, dear editor, is lowly. And I don't know why you'd expect TSN to know much about the Islanders anyways; hell, the community doesn't care about the Islanders (and by that I mean the poeple and politicans who keep putting off a new arena).
TAMPA should be called lowly. Two legit allstars and a A1 prospect and they're 29th place. The Isles have NO names on the team.
Their definition of "good" would be, you know, a solid record sustained over the course of the entire season. That's kind of the standard definition of good. Not 6 wins in their last 10 when the playoffs have already been written off. I mean, you're honestly getting on the Canadian media for referring to a last place team as lowly? That's what lowly means...worse than everyone else.
You're dead on about the Bailey thing though. The guy is going to be a very, very solid player. Watching him play more than once should be more than enough for any legitimate hockey fan to recognize that.
"Lowly" is played the hell out.
"Lowly" doesnt make you think of a team that has been plagued by injury. How about "injured"? "unlucky"? "inexperienced"? At least those things are accurate.
"Lowly" also fails to make someone think of a team that works their butts off and makes every team truly fight for every win they can get over them. How about "youthful"? "persistent"? "tenacious"? All of those things work a lot better than "lowly".
If they really are nothing but the “lowly Islanders” and they beat Canada’s team AGAIN, what does THAT say about the Habs?
What he said about Josh Bailey is mean and such ignorance should not be broiadcast and accepted. Id rather have him say nothing about Josh than needlessly smack talk a great young kid like him and saying things that are not even true.
I am going to seond something to TSN itself regarding an error on his show.

^that^ is the email for feedback.
No worries, the Isles will win just enough meaningless late season games to not get a chance to pick Tavares.

Maybe because, you know, TSN covers the NHL? In fact, maybe because TSN is talking about an Islanders player?
Just two reasons off the top of my head, though...

Exactly, they cover the NHL - a 30 team league. And the Islanders aren't exactly a featured team, nor a popular one North of the Boards. I do disagree with the comments by Gord made about Bailey, but about the Islanders in general, they're an obscure team. There aren't many name-brand players, they aren't good (to say the least), they're not a "big-market" team and (I said they were bad before) but they're really 'putrid'.
At least the Leafs can win the games where draft position is on the line - fml.
